Why the BCS Needs to Go

I love college football. I mean absolutley love it. There is no other sport that I follow more closley week in and week out than college football. But there is one thing about the sport that drives mr crazy: the BCS. The BCS system is completley unfair. Back in the day the only good teams were the big name schools, so it didn't matter that the small schools never got a shot. But in today's game there are several non BCS teams who could quite possibly be some of the best in the country. The problem is that we will never know how good they really are because they will never get to play for a championship under the current system. Obviously the best solution to this problem is switching to a tournament format. Cosider this: college football is the only major sport in our nation that does not have a tournament style championship. Now, I don't think that this change is going to happen anytime soon, but hopefully with enough complaining things will change in the future.

UCF Vs. Marshall

So I went to the UCF-Marshall game. :-) First of all, shame on all you "fans" who started leaving in the THIRD quarter!!!! Come on. It was only a two posession game and you couldn't stick around to cheer on your team and see if they could maybe pull it out. If you want to be big time you have to act big time.

One thing I must say: Excelent play calling by UCF. They actualy passed the ball in run situations. It completley blew my mind in a marvelous way.

The officiating was horrible. And since I'm not an sec coach I will say it: the refs blew calls. They almost ruined the game. I have never seen bad officiating control a game like that. But hey, UCF found a way to pull it out and that's what good teams do.

I'm back

So first I would like to appologize for my lack of recent posts. Life has been crazy latley. Luckily I have downloaded this nifty new Iphone app that allows me to write blogs anywhere. So you can expect more consistent blogging.

College Football Picks Week 8

Sorry for the lack of posts recently. Things here have been crazy. I will try to be more consistent from now on. So here we go with week 8.
(I used the AP rankings for these picks.)
Oh Yeah: Good job FSU. Guess the players do want Bobby to stick around a little longer.

12 Georgia Tech @ Virginia: Virginia could arguably be one of the worst teams in the ACC. (Thats what I said at the beginning of the year). Now they are 3-3. Doesn't matter. G Tech rolls.

Minnesota @ 19 Ohio State: Ha ha I love watching Ohio State lose. Thank you boilermakers :)
Some are calling for another upset here. I don't think so. Ohio State pulls it out in a close one.

South Florida @ 20 Pittsburgh: South Florida has a serious inability to finish seasons. Pitt wins this one behind one of the best rushers in the nation.

UConn @ 23 West Virginia: I'm calling upset special. UConn wins this one for their late QB. Get it done guys.

15 Oklahoma State @ Baylor: Cow Boys roll.

Tennessee @ 2 Alabama: Bama needs a marquee win here. I think this one is closer than people think but the Crimson Tide take it in the end.

Louisville @ 5 Cincinnati: Bear cats roll.

Clemson @ 10 Miami: Clemson disappoints me every year. Miami takes it big time.

11 Oregon @ Washington: The ducks roll on a good Washington team.

13 Penn State @ Michigan: I'm calling upset. Go big blue.

Oklahoma @ 25 Kansas: Oklahoma takes this one but I struggle with calling it an upset. I mean come on, its Oklahoma.

Air Force @ 18 Utah; Utes Roll

UCLA @ 22 Arizona: I really don't understand why Arizona is ranked. They lost to the only good teams they have played so far. Bruins take it.

Vanderbilt @ 24 South Carolina: South Carolina is vastly overrated. But they win this week.

1 Florida @ Mississippi State: Florida needs to take care of the ball. If they do that they wont lose a game this season.

8 TCU @ 16 BYU: This should be a fun one. A lot of people are calling for the Cougars in an upset but I'm gonna go with the Horned Frogs. TCU in a close one.

Auburn @ 9 LSU: Upset Special. The tigers who wear blue and orange win this one.

SMU at 17 Houston: Like I said last week. Houston will not lose again this season.

3 Texas @ Mizzou: This should be good but Texas will show why they are the best in the Big 12.

Oregon State @ 7 USC: USC rolls. The only way they ever lose to the beavers is if they are playing in Oregon.

4 Boise State @ Hawaii: Broncos roll.

Overall this season: 15-4

College Football Picks: Week 7

Pretty big weekend that is full of interesting match ups. Here we go.

20 Oklahoma vs. 3 Texas: Here is where we find out how real Texas is. Oklahoma has Bradford back but will that be enough? I think not. The biggest thing for Texas is to find more balance in their offense. I think the Longhorns take this one for the second year in a row.

7 Ohio State @ Purdue: Ohio State is always a weird team. They are arguably one of the most talent-filled teams in the nation but yet they never can quite put together a "complete season". Purdue is no pushover. Ohio State wins but this one will be closer than people would think.

11 Iowa @ Wisconsin: I'm sorry, I don't think Iowa is that good. I'm going with Wisconsin on a hunch. I think the Badgers will run the ball well and wear the Hawk eye D down. I'm going with Wisconsin by two possessions.

Arkansas @ 1 Florida: I called it. Last week I said the Razorbacks would upset Auburn and look what happened. Good job boys. But that was last week. Sorry, your not playing at home against Auburn. Your playing on the road in one of the toughest places to play ever. And your not Ole Miss so don't get too upset minded. Sorry boys, but Florida wins in a blowout.

6 USC @ 25 Notre Dame: This is a very interesting game that I am kinda on the fence about. This game features two of the better QB's in the nation in Jimmy Clausen (Notre Dame) and Matt Barkley (USC). Overall, USC is the more talented team. Both QB's have struggled with injuries this season. I'm going to go with USC. I think they keep winning until they meet the Oregon ducks in the Zoo. This one will be close, but the more talented team will pull this one out.

Minnesota @ 14 Penn State: HAPPY VALLEY

Texas Tech @ 15 Nebraska: If you don't already know, Nebraska is not an easy place to play. That being said, I prefer the Red Raiders in this one. Expect to see big numbers from both offenses.

23 Houston @ Tulane: Ha ha good luck with this one. Mark my words. Houston will not lose another regular season game this year.

Colorado State @ 12 TCU: Boise's close win over Tulsa has opened up the doors for TCU. With two ranked opponents still on the schedule the Horned Frogs have the opportunity to eventually jump Boise State in the BCS standings. TCU rolls.

4 Va Tech @ 19 Georgia Tech: Now here is game I am looking forward to. Tech's D better step it up. I think the Hokies pull this one out in a close one.

9 Miami @ UCF: Wow it is almost impossible to get tickets to this game. Guess that's what I get for being a procrastinator. UCF needs this win but I dont think they have what it takes. Their only hope is to exploit a Miami D that is honestly not that good. I could be wrong but I think the Knights are over their heads on this one.

22 South Carolina @ 2 Alabama: South Carolina is overrated. They beat Ole Miss. Big deal. Alabama blows through this one.

Sit Down Bobby!!!

Make a list of the greatest college football coaches of all time, wether still active or retired. Now try to tell me that Bobby Bowden isnt on that list. If you say no, you snubbed him. Theres no doubt that Bobby Bowden is one of the greats. You can look at his record and see that. But with that being said, there is a time for every great to retire. Hmm anybody remember the days when old Bobby used to talk about how he would quit if his team started losing? Well guess what Bobby? Your time was up years ago. The fact is that the Seminoles have been sub-par for a long time. Face it Bobby, everybody has to hang it up some time. Your not Brett Farve.

Now here's the sad thing. I honestly don't think that Bobby Bowden's "heir to the throne" is any better. But hey that's what you get for committing to a guy before making sure your current head coach was going to be ready to retire sometime this decade.

That all said, even if FSU goes undefeated the rest of the season, Bobby needs to step down. Its time to let in some new blood. So go ahead Bobby, take a seat.

NFL Picks: Week 5

Cleveland @ Buffalo: Here's a bore. We have 0-4 Cleveland against one win Buffalo. I'm going with Cleveland for two reasons: 1. Their offense looked a lot better last week against the Bengals. 2. They are going to get a win at some point and Buffalo is probably one of their best bets to do it.

Dallas @ Kansas City: There is still a lot of work to do in Big D. But as long as they continue to run the ball well I think they win this game.

Minnesota @ St. Louis: Do I think the Vikings go undefeated? No. Do they lose this week? Absolutely not. Farve plays his best inside the domes so he will feel right at home in St. Louis. Let's do it Brett. Bring me the fantasy points.

Oakland @ NY Giants: ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS: Any decent QB that is willing to stay in Oakland until Russel graduates from Pop Warner may apply. NY Rolls.......

Tampa Bay @ Philadelphia: Tampa Bay has not looked good. :( But hey, on the bright side I have the Eagles defense on my fantasy team. Eagles win big.

Pittsburgh @ Detroit: Come on Pitt. I miss the Steelers of last year. Maybe its time to break out Dennis Dixon..... Anyways Pitt looked to have it together on offense last week and were finally able to run the ball. Steelers win but maybe not by as much as you would think.

Washington @ Carolina: Two more disappointing teams. Where did DeAngelo go? I think the Panthers get their run game together this week and win in a tight one.

Cincinnati @ Baltimore: Both of these teams have looked good. Baltimore is a lot more balanced than they were last year. I'm going to go with Baltimore in an exciting match up.

Atlanta @ San Francisco: I like Atlanta. I feel like they have finally gotten all of the pieces together to have a great team. Falcons win on the road.

Jacksonville @ Seattle: JVille has seemed very up and down. If the Sea Hawks can run the ball I think they win in a close one.

Houston @ Arizona: Again we have two very talent laden teams that have been very up and down this year. Houston needs to get Steve Slaton started. Even with that, I think they lose this one. Arizona wins and looks to get their season on track.

New England @ Denver: This one is going to be fun. Denver's D has looked sick. However I think the Patriots will be too much to handle. New England wins in what will be a fun game to watch.

Indianapolis @ Tennessee: Ha ha this is a joke. Last year this would have been a great game. This year, Peyton gets to go play some catch with his boys. Colts roll.

New York Jets @ Miami: Not a great MNF match up. Jets win with stingy defense and a lot of sacks.
