Top Five College Football Quarterbacks

Occasionally I will be posting questions which I would encourage any who might actually read this blog to comment on and post their own answers. For this post I am going to name my top 5 favorite college quarterbacks. Now these are not necessarily the "greatest players in history", but the players that I have enjoyed watching the most since I started following college football.
So here we go:

5. Tim Tebow(Florida): Probably one of the most dynamic and entertaining sports players period. While I do not for see a great future for him in the pros, no one can deny the huge impact he has had on the college football world. Two championships and possibly another on the way.... wow.

4. Matt Lienart(USC): While I am not a USC fan, I can appreciate a high caliber QB when I see one.
Numbers don't lie: 2003- 3556 yards and 38 TD vs. 9 INT, 2004- 3322 yards and 33 TD vs. 6 INT.
2005- 3815 yards and 28 TD vs. 8 INT.

3. Vince Young(Texas): Amazing to watch. Deadly accurate passer who could run it down your throat. It really hurt me to see his pro career go down the drain.

2. Colt McCoy(Texas): WOW, ever noticed how the schools that crank out great QB's year after year seam to be the most successful programs in the country? Weird ay? Colt McCoy is not only a phenomenal player but I great person. I cant wait to see how his college game translates in the pro's.

1. And here it is..... Dennis Dixon(Oregon): Some of you may not even know who this guy is. That is because halfway through the best season of his career Dixon went down with an injury that kept him out of most of the season. He now sits the bench behind Big Ben in Pittsburgh. But if you saw this guy destroy Michigan on national television you understand why this guy is number one. I absolutely loved to watch him play. This guy was a great field general and I really wish we could see him in the pro's.

So there it is, my top five College QB's. Post yours.

  1. Here's my top five... These might seem random to you... Maybe even a little surprising... Tebow missed the list, but a different gator made the list.

    5. Vince Young (Texas)... All I have to say on this one is the man had 467 total yards in the Championship game versus USC who was absolutely one of the most talent laden teams ever. I mean he beat Reggie Bush. He beat Leinart. Even Lendale White was on that team. Vince Young outplayed their offense, seemingly by himself. Makes the list if that was the only game he ever played in.
    4. Carson Palmer (USC)... Always just liked him better than Leinart... No offense, I thought he was a better caliber player. He wasn't great early, but man was he fun to watch. Doesn't have the win percentage, had a bunch of picks, but he still is up there for me as one of the best QBs I have watched play ball.
    3. Ken Dorsey (Miami)... Back in the day when I actually cheered for the U (before they started playing UCF) success was synonymous with Ken Dorsey. The guy was efficient and he had good mechanics. He made good choices and he absolutely was a winner. One stat: 38-2 as a starter. Awesome. Period.
    2. Danny Wuerffel (Florida)... I know this might be a shocker. I have to admit that back in my football nut formative days I wasn't a UCF fan, or a UM fan, not even FSU. I watched the Gators. My third grade teacher was an alum and so I watched the Gators. Now as most know I am an avid Gator Hater, mostly because of the fans, but Danny Wueffrel was my first true love in college ball. (Troy Aikman and the 'Boys were my first NFL love by the way... I was ten and had misguided friends...) Let me make this simple: 10,875 career passing yards, 114 TDs, and a career, that's right career passer rating of 163.56. And he had two seasons of QB rating over 170! Just great to watch... Imagine watching him play as a 3rd grader... He helped make football for me.
    1. Pat White (West Virginia)... White is number one for me because of anyone on this list, or any list, I would rather watch Pat White play QB. He is the kind of athlete you just wish your team recruited, fun to watch and never out of a game. I watched Rich Rodriguez's stock go up, almost single handedly, because of Pat White. He was a gamer and game changer and the most fun show on Saturday that I can remember watching.
